On this day (March 5th) 1933, Germans voted for the last time in a democratic election until the end of the war. This also marks the end of the short lived Weimar Republic, Germany's first democracy. The end of the Republic is a complex one, but the rise of Adolph Hitler and the National Socialist Party was done through an election. It is often said that a democracy deserves what it gets, in the good and the bad sense. I hope that in our upcoming Presidential election that people regardless of political affiliation take the time to vote. Only then can a citizen be satisfied with the outcome, and our democracy will deserve what it gets - in a good way.
